Working Hard...

This is the end of the 3rd quarter...oh my!  I cannot believe we only have 9 weeks remaining.  The biggest area where many children need to continue to work is sight words.  I have completed all sight word assessments over the past week and will be sending those home with children at the end of the week.  I encourage you to take some time to practice these words.

We are continuing to practice reading simple words (3 letter words) and some children are working on reading words with blends (sl, fl, sm, dr, tr) and digraphs (ch, sh, wh, th).  I am impressed with how the children are doing with this skill.  In math, we are reviewing groups of ten, addition, and subtraction!

Pete the Cat...

We read this book last week to help us review subtraction and subtraction number sentences!  The children had a blast listening to this story and singing the song!  The children then did a wonderful job matching the button picture to the number sentence!

Sight Words...

I am thrilled to be back and we had a great week last week.  The children did an awesome job with adding and subtracting!  The one thing many of the children need to practice is writing the number sentence.  In reading, the children did great with their sounds and blending.  The only piece children need to continue to practice is their sight words.  I have included a sheet with all the sight words learned up to this point.  Please take time to practice them.  One great way is to write them on a card and then play memory.  The other thing you can do is write various words and turn it into a puzzle and have them try to figure out the sentence.  One more way is playing hangman!  The children love this game!  You can even have them try to have you figure out the word as well!

Getting Back...

I am excited that I will be returning back to school on March 4 (Tuesday).  I am looking forward to seeing the children and getting into the routines!  I have truly missed them!  This week, I am planning on checking on where the children are and listening to them read.  I am going to review some important concepts; such as, subtraction, addition, numbers, sounds, and blending.

This week we will be having picture day on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Please let your child know that I cannot wait to see them!
