Field Trip Fun...

We had a FANTASTIC field trip to the Children's Museum on Friday! The kids had a lot of fun and this would not have been successful without the great chaperones. I want to thank everyone who chaperoned the trip today! You all did a fantastic job and the children told me how much fun they had! I heard a lot of great things once we returned to school. The kids were talking about what they did at the museum and then explained some great thinking on the science behind a few of the water activities and the "ball" area. This was very memorable for the kids and I hope to have some pictures posted here by Monday!

Fun with Plants...

Last we started our plant unit in literacy and science. We started off reading a nonfiction book regarding plants. We learned about the parts of the plant and then drew a diagram with labels. The children did a fantastic job on learning the parts of a plant and the jobs of each part. We then came the exciting part of planting our own plants! The children then learned about observations and recording what they observe. Today was a highlight for many children in the classroom. About half of our seeds sprouted and the children were THRILLED! The children drew what they saw and then wrote at least one sentence about what they see. I am AMAZED by their observations and what they are writing. These young learners are becoming scientists! I cannot wait for the next few days to watch their excitement continue as we continue to learn about plants!

Field Trip Reminder...

We will be going on our field trip on Friday. All children (AM & PM) need to be at school by 9:10 and all chaperones need to be at school by 9:20 (feel free to come to school with your child). The kids DO NOT need to bring the backpack, just their lunch! Each chaperone will be in charge of 3-5 children in each group to watch over. We will be leaving promptly at 9:30 to depart for the Children’s Museum. All children will need to bring a sack lunch (brown paper bag) with their name on it. Please do not send lunch boxes because these can become misplaced once we eat and may not arrive back at school. We will be arriving back at school by 12:45 and all PM children will need to be picked up at this time. The AM class will stay for the remainder of the day to make up one of their 2 hour delays. We are looking forward to our trip on Friday!

All Day Fun...

AM and PM Class

We had a great day yesterday with the morning class staying all day and meeting the PM class in the afternoon.  One of the highlights of the day was eating lunch at school!  The children also had the opportunity to learn about Earth Day, Addition, Writing, and Insects with Mrs. Brown, Keith Robertson (Clermont County Naturalist), Mrs. Heil, and myself.  The children did a fantastic job.  We were very proud of them.

Morning Make-Up Days...

This year we had three (3) two-hour delays due to snow. Since we missed these days we are required to make the days up. We will be making these days up on the following: April 21, April 30 (field trip), and May 24. The children will ride to school on their regular bus and then ride home on the same bus at 3:40. The children will need to bring a packed lunch on these days with a drink. On April 21 and May 24 the AM will be in session with the PM class. On April 30, the children will stay after the field trip until 3:40; however, the PM class will leave at 12:45 since they will be coming to school in the AM. If you do not wish for your child to stay all day you may pick them up; however, it will be marked as an absence.

Mrs. Duncan's Time is Almost Over...

This is my last full week of student teaching with Mr. Stahl. I have had such a great experience with your children. We have learned about word families, had an introduction to maps, and wrote some books together. I loved listening to them as they added how many feet live in their homes and when they explored the characteristics of 2D and 3D shapes. I especially enjoyed our sink and float lesson—their thoughts were amazing to me on why a rock the size of a quarter will sink but a large apple floats. Be sure to ask them on Friday about our gravity experiments! Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me.
~Mrs. Duncan

I have had a blast working with Mrs. Duncan this semester and I know your children have done a fantastic job.  Mrs. Duncan will continue to be in and out of the classroom until April 30.  She will also get a chance to join us on our field trip!

Look Right When Turning Right...

Many of you know I am addicted to running...it is a great addiction I must say! Also, many of you know I am training for the Flying Pig Marathon on May 2nd (less than a month)! However, I do a lot of my training outside and have noticed many drivers not looking right when they turn right. In addition with the beautiful weather upon us there are more and more people walking and running outside. In Mt. Washington and many other areas there are a lot of sidewalks; however, when I begin to cross a driveway or a road there are drivers who do not look right when they turn right. I try to stop, but many of times I am not as fast as a car. Therefore, the driver does not see me until the last moment. This past week I was almost hit twice and I do not want any of you to experience this. So a word of caution, please look right when turning right. I know I did not look right and neither did my wife until I began running and realized the danger.

Spring Break...

I hope everyone has a FANTASTIC spring break! If you are traveling be safe. This is also a great time to visit the library and have your child sign up for a library card if you do not already have one. Also, take some time to play some games. A lot of games have thinking strategies involved, math components, and literacy components. Also, do not forget to just sit and enjoy the weather with a great book!

I look forward to hearing what everyone has done over break! See you on April 12!
